So you want to give your living room, nursery, bedroom or games room more atmosphere and a personal touch, but you don’t want to turn the place upside down or spend too much money? Even with a low budget and not much time, you can transform a room and create more atmosphere and warmth. One of the things you can do, for example, is hang picture frames on the wall. When you think of a photo frame, you immediately think of framing a photo… and of course, that’s perfectly true... but with a photo frame, you can do much more!
Below we give you a number of examples of what else you can put in a picture frame. And of course, we hope to inspire you with these ideas so that you can create your own unique photo frame and thus give your room more atmosphere.
Framing a poster
Posters are available in many different themes. This makes a poster versatile, something that can be used in all kinds of spaces. For a children's or teenager's room you can frame one or more posters of, for example, your son or daughter's favorite singer, favorite series, actor or cartoon. A cool poster of a favorite artist, film, game or athlete is a super cool option for a man cave, games room or a chill-out space. For a playful effect, you could opt for multiple frames in different sizes. Make sure that you choose a clear theme or dominant colour to create peace and order. If you prefer a clean look, choose a black and white collection.
Framing an art reproduction
Would you like to hang one of the reproduction masterpieces by Andy Warhol, Monet or Van Gogh on your wall? An affordable art print of an Old Master or a still life painting in your room is a real eye-catcher. For example, an abstract art print with natural shapes would look great in a bedroom. Art prints are perfect for framing. When framing an art print, you can choose modern or classic photo frames. A wide photo frame with a wide passe-partout gives a stylish and powerful effect. A wooden or MDF photo frame gives an art print more volume and the artwork really comes into its own. For example, with a classic art print you can use Baroque-style photo frame. These are available in different colors.
Framing photo wallpaper
It may sound crazy at first, but framing photo wallpaper is not that crazy at all. Have you just wallpapered a room with beautiful photo wallpaper and have a piece left over? Then why not frame it? Nature wallpaper, floral wallpaper or animal wallpaper are great for framing. Do you have a boring wall that’s all one colour? Then frame a piece of photo wallpaper and hang it up… you can also use, for example, two frames to make it stand out a bit more. Nowadays, you can also get photo wallpaper strips. These are long strips of photo wallpaper in (e.g. 60cmx260cm) from sleek and abstract to forest and stone motifs. You can of course stick these on your wall without a frame, but adding a frame gives them that special something.
Framing Diamond Paintings
Diamond paintings are extremely popular and a very nice hobby and activity for young and old. They are available in a variety of sizes and images. It’s also possible to make a painting of your own photo… how cool is that! A self-portrait, your pet or your favorite holiday photo in a thousand glittering diamonds! Placing the stones or diamonds on a self-adhesive canvas can be a daunting task. But when it’s finished you can rightly be very proud of yourself and your artwork deserves a nice place on the wall! Frame it and you'll have a breath-taking masterpiece in your room.
When purchasing a frame, bear in mind that not all frames may be suitable for diamond paintings. Check carefully whether the moulding of the chosen photo frame is deep enough to fit a diamond painting as well as the glass and rear panel. If you order a photo frame in anti-reflective acrylic, it may be a little blurry close up.
Framing dried flowers and leaves
Nature has so much to offer all year round. Every season something new comes to life. Beautiful flowers in all kinds of colors and trees with their beautiful green leaves in spring and summer and intense orange colour in autumn. How nice would it be to be able to enjoy this natural beauty all year round? Or do you have a nice memory of that bunch of flowers you got and think it's a shame to throw it away? Then framing your favorite flowers might be a solution! By drying the flowers or leaves thoroughly, you can frame them and give them a place on your wall. It’s important that you dry the flowers thoroughly. Place them between some paper or kitchen roll under a heavy object and let them dry for three weeks. Then you can carefully take them out and frame them. This way you have a unique and original eye-catcher on the wall!
